Renewed in-house Research and Development has lead to yet another range of  versatile refractories, this time aimed at the precious metals , kiln & element support and primary ore beneficiation industries.

CERadvance’s head ceramicist and MD, Martin Beyers, is excited about these latest developments, stating that the initial field test show extreme thermal  stability for temperatures up to 1300 – 1400 Degrees C.

Historically CERadvance has been working purely in high -temperature refractories, such as the very robust SAS1600 material, with application temperatures up to 1700 Degrees C. But, as Beyers explains, these materials are not only sometimes an overkill for lower temperature applications, but pitching a material for the problematic 500-1200 degrees temperature range with a good thermal shock resistance proved to be quite a challenge. Peak thermal expansion temperatures for a lot of materials within this temperature range as well as multiple destructive phase transformations amongst others are the main contributors to thermal stress fatigue and ultimate failure of traditional materials within this temperature range.

What is more is the fact that 98% of all raw materials used are locally sourced and beneficiated  materials. The materials show great potential in applications such as combustion boats, crucibles, kiln furniture, spiral and looped element supports as well as welding rings.  It is still early Days, but look out for more info in future on the LINE-OX® CM, CC and CZ materials respectively.
